The United States President Donald Trump may have commanded that he was only joking when he recently proclaimed himself the “chosen one”, but at least one member of his cabinet believed that the almighty has appointed the controversial billionaire’s presidency.
The outgoing US Secretary of Energy Rick Perry, who is a rival of President Trump, said that “you didn’t get here without God’s blessing,” recalls a recent conversation that focused on faith with the US President.
Mr. Perry is a devout Christian, has said that “I know there are people that say you know, that you said you are the chosen one. And I said, ‘You were’.”
He continued, “I said if you’re a believing Christian you understand God’s plan for the people who rule and judge over us on this planet in our government.”
His comment was aired on November 24, come as the US President faces probably impeachment by the Democratic-led House of Representatives over his reported abuse of power for conditioning military aid and a coveted meeting in White House over Ukraine commitment to probing his political rivals Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden.
Mr. Perry drove the “energy dominance” policy of President Trump, is himself trapped in the scandal, as one of his aides who pressed Ukraine’s capital Kiev to introduce the investigation.
In October, President Trump has announced the departure of Rick Perry.
Few Americans, including his most loyal defenders, considers him as a flawless person as the President of America.
He himself assault the US President when he was still a candidate in 2015 as a “cancer on conservatism” and a “barking carnival act.”
Mr. Perry is more ready for forgiveness – pointed to The Old Testament figures as instances of fallible leaders blessed with the beneficence of God.
“God’s used imperfect people all through history,” he said, “King David wasn’t perfect. Saul wasn’t perfect. Solomon wasn’t perfect.”
Mr. Perry suggested that the providence of God wasn’t aimed only at President Trump, but at his Democratic Predecessor.
“You know, Barack Obama doesn’t get to be the president of the United States without being ordained by God. Neither did Donald Trump,” he stated.
While briefing sources at the White House in August, President Trump talked about trade negotiations with China when he paused, turns his head up towards the heavens and said that “I am the chosen one.”
Two days later President Trump tweets, “knew I was kidding (and) being sarcastic.”
He already expected the US President to “muscle right on through” the impeachment process and avoid removal.
“He is an extraordinary individual.”
